A breezy beach clean and a shared commitment to our coast

On 27th November 2025, Café Notos brought its community together in a different kind of setting – not around tables with coffee and cake, but on the windswept sands of Traeth Llydan (Broad Beach) in Rhosneigr for a sustainability beach clean with the Marine Conservation Society. It was one of those classic, windy Rhosneigr days but that didn’t stop a wonderful group of volunteers from turning up with bags and pickers in hand.

At Notos, we’ve always said that small actions can add up to meaningful impact. That starts in the café with the way we source our food, the choices we make on packaging, and extends into the way we connect with the people and places around us. Beach cleans have become part of that journey, a chance to get out into the elements together, do some good for the coast we love, and reflect on what sustainability means in practice. Partnering with Marine Conservation Society to host this beach clean was an amazing way to ensure we followed best-practices and got the word out to as many potential volunteers as possible.

Winds, work, and 15.4 kg of Litter

Despite the gusty conditions, spirits were high. Volunteers of all ages walked the stretch of sand, picking up anything that didn’t belong – from stray bits of plastic to fragments we barely notice on a casual walk. By the end of the session, 15.4kg of litter had been collected. For us, that figure isn’t just a weight on a scale it’s a reminder of why these events matter, and what we can do when we work together.

Beach cleans are practical: we remove items that can harm wildlife and enter our oceans. But they’re also symbolic. They remind us why we serve food and drink that “doesn’t cost the Earth,” why we choose suppliers thoughtfully, and why we’re committed to actions big and small that protect this place we call home.

Community in action

What we love most about these events isn’t just the litter collected, it’s the conversations, the shared sense of purpose, and the connection between people who care about the same stretch of coastline. All the volunteers on the day brought a willingness to get hands on and make a difference and that shared energy is what makes mornings like this meaningful.

For us, this beach clean sits alongside everything else we do at Notos that looks outwards, from supporting environmental partners as part of our 1% for the Planet giving to hosting events that inspire awareness and action. It all ties back to a simple belief: if we care for our local environment, we make space for the things we love – the ocean, the sand, the wind, and the conversations that happen while we’re out there.

Looking Ahead

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us – not just for the bags full of litter, but for showing up on a breezy November morning with a smile and a sense of purpose. We’ll continue organising events like this, not because they solve everything, but because they help us take meaningful steps towards protecting our coast and inspire us all to think about our impact in everyday life.

If you’d like to hear about future sustainability events, pop into the café, follow us online, or simply drop us a message. Together we can keep making a difference -one beach clean, one conversation, and one choice at a time.
