Why Tir Natur
There’s a piece of Wales in the process of becoming itself again.
In the Elenydd, the Cambrian Mountains of Ceredigion,a 1,195-acre site at Cwm Doethïe is being restored to something it hasn’t been for generations. Hardy cattle and Welsh mountain ponies roam freely, shaping the land as their wild ancestors once did. Peat bogs are being rewetted. Rivers will run cleaner. And gradually, Welsh nature is returning.
This is the work of Tir Natur, Wales’s only charity dedicated solely to rewilding and from July 2026, we are proud to be their partner.
What Tir Natur Does
Tir Natur (pronounced Teer-Nah-tir, meaning “Nature’s Land” in Welsh) was founded with a clear and urgent purpose: to restore wild nature in Wales at scale, at a moment when it is needed most. As highlighted by naturalist & Tir Natur’s proud ambassador Iolo Williams, Wales is one of the most nature-depleted countries on the planet. The charity’s approach is to let the land lead by introducing low numbers of grazing animals that mimic natural processes, rewetting peatlands, and creating wildlife corridors between isolated habitats and nature reserves. The aim is to restore ecosystems until they can take care of themselves again, while keeping Welsh communities and culture at the heart of the work.
The Cwm Doethïe site is their flagship project. Secured in early 2026 after a significant fundraising effort, it sits within the Mynydd Mallaen SSSI (Site of Specific Scientific Interest), at the edge of the Celtic rainforest biome, and holds an incredible potential to connect people with the land.

The land bridges existing nature reserves and its rivers (the Doethïe and the Camddwr) are naturally beautiful and with light-touch intervention are slowly returning to health. Over the coming years, the peatland restoration alone is expected to contribute to improved carbon storage, cleaner water, and reduced flood risk for communities downstream. Species like red squirrels, pine martens, curlews, and hen harriers may, in time, return.
The Partnership
Our three-year partnership with Tir Natur commenced in July 2026 and is structured through our 1% for the Planet membership – the same commitment that underpins all of our environmental giving. We’ll be supporting Tir Natur through to 2028 (and hopefully beyond), directed specifically into Tir Natur’s Community and Nature Fund.
That fund is one of the things that drew us to this partnership as it exists to give Tir Natur’s Community Coordinator additional resources to meaningfully involve local people such as neighbours, schools, local landowners in the work at Cwm Doethïe, through workshops, land visits, and volunteer days. Rewilding done well isn’t just about the land; it’s about the people who live alongside it and the relationship between them.
The Community and Nature Fund is the structure that makes that possible. Tir Natur will also provide us with regular updates on the impact of the funds something we think matters. We want to be a part of helping Tir Natur rewild Welsh land and we want to be able to share their work with you so you can get involved too.

Why It Fits
We are proud of our location in North Wales. We are lucky to call a stunning part of the world home, we have the sea on our doorstep, and the mountains of Eryri are visible on clear days from the beach at Rhosneigr. The landscape is not background to what we do – it’s the reason we are here at all, and the reason we care so much about who we support through our giving.
But it’s not just about the land, we are powered by our incredible staff and customers that call Wales home and we believe in working together to make where we live a better place socially and environmentally.
Tir Natur are doing serious, inspiring work in the heart of Wales. Their approach is rigorous and community-rooted, their mission is one of the most clearly necessary things we can imagine, and they are building something that will outlast all of us. We’re glad to stand alongside them.
