A message from George at Natural Distinction

Café Notos are a perfect example of a business that has sustainability embedded at its core and are constantly looking to reduce their environmental footprint and contribute to a better tomorrow for people and planet. Since Cafe Notos’ inception we have worked with Becky and her fantastic team to find local suppliers such as Pentrefelin Dairy that share Notos’ sustainabilty values, as well as worked to implement packaging solutions that reduce the amount of waste reaching landfill.

As well as the everyday environmental efforts, we have also guided Notos to becoming a full business member of the 1% for the Planet programme. This means 1% of every sale made in the café goes to an approved environmental partner and in 2024 those partners were Tir Natur, Protect the West Coast, and Protect Our Winters UK. We have also run events including Earth Evenings and Beach Cleans with local partners such as North Wales Rivers Trust to empower community action for the planet.

We are proud to continue to work with Notos on all of their sustainability efforts and are excited to continue to develop the commitment to together create as much positive impact for people and planet as we can.

Local milk from Pentrefelin Dairy

We source all our milk from Pentrefelin, an independent dairy farm in Denbigh that really cares about animal welfare and looking after the local environment. Their cows are pasture-fed, and unlike industrial farms, calves stay with their mothers during the milking process. Our milk arrives in 1-litre glass bottles that we return to Pentrefelin to be cleaned and reused, meaning there’s no plastic waste at all.

Responsibly sourced produce

As a café-deli, much of our impact comes from the food and drink we serve and how we choose to source it.  We hand-pick all of our suppliers for their outstanding quality and commitment to caring for our planet. We can safely say that we are proud of every ingredient on your plate and in your cup.

By working with local suppliers, we also cut down on transport-related CO2 emissions and keep other impacts, such as plastic waste, to an absolute minimum. It’s how we serve food that’s better for you and better for the world around us.

Sustainable products and merch

Alongside our café-deli, we also have a small retail space featuring products from local businesses that reflect who we are. Every item we stock has been chosen with sustainability in mind.

You’ll also find our own range of merchandise here, including t-shirts and tote bags made from eco-friendly materials. They’re the perfect way to show your support for sustainable choices and take a little bit of our ethos home with you.

Eco-friendly packaging

For all our takeaway food and drinks, we use packaging that comes from sustainable sources and is fully compostable. We’ve chosen Decent Packaging, a Carbon Zero certified organisation that produces all their packaging from plant-based materials. That means once you’re done, we’re not left with something that will harm the environment for years to come.

Going beyond

We apply the same sustainable thinking to everything we use in running the café. One thing we’re particularly proud of is choosing Môr Eco cleaning products. They help us cut carbon emissions, eliminate unnecessary plastic waste and support a Welsh business doing great things for the planet. Their cleaning products are a new generation of bio-cleaners and offer fantastic results as well as being non-toxic to humans and to aquatic life (yay!).
